Our goals

Working with WHO and partners worldwide to prevent firearm violence through health and solidarity

The Global Coalition for WHO Action on Firearm Violence (GC-WHOA) unites research institutes, civil-society organisations, and advocacy networks committed to strengthening the World Health Organization’s leadership in preventing firearm injury and death.

Established in 2025, following evidence that WHO attention to firearm violence had steadily declined, the Coalition works with Member States and partners to restore it as a global public-health priority.

Through collaboration with WHO governing bodies and regional offices, GC-WHOA promotes practical, evidence-based strategies that integrate firearm-violence prevention into health, gender, and equity frameworks—building on WHO’s successes in tobacco control, road safety, and violence prevention.

Guided by equity, inclusion, and scientific integrity, the Coalition ensures meaningful participation from low- and middle-income countries, survivor-led networks, and youth advocates.
